Paving Our Path: Bond 2022

Montgomery ISD completed a demographic study in spring of 2021 that laid out an expectation of growth over a 10-year projection for our district. As we prepare to plan for the needs projected in this report, we are focusing on the first five years. We have already exceeded the growth projection for year one and in five years, the report shows us having an additional 1,200 students in MISD schools. In addition to the demographic report, a comprehensive facilities assessment was completed in spring 2021 and listed a number of capital improvements needed across our district.

With the gathered data, the Montgomery ISD Board of Trustees approved the administration’s recommendation to partner with Huckabee as our architectural firm to assist with future planning needs.

This past fall, the Board also authorized the formation of a Community Bond Task Force Committee. This committee consisted of over 50 individuals, including parents and staff from each of our ten campuses, community members, and business owners. The committee held six meetings during the fall semester to evaluate existing district facilities, district growth patterns and projections conducted by a third party demographer, our MISD Pathway to Premier Strategic Plan, and more. During each meeting, district staff was available to present information, answer questions and facilitate meaningful conversations. Their planning included touring facilities, evaluating how to address the future needs outlined in the demographic report and the facilities assessment, evaluating the needs of each campus, deciding if - and what - facilities need to be added to our district and considering the educational needs of all students in MISD.

The committee group will ultimately make recommendations on a set of projects to be included in a bond for consideration by the Board of Trustees in January.
