At the MISD School Board meeting February 15, trustees approved a calendar revision for the current school year adding a Student Holiday on Monday, March 21. This day will be a work day for MISD teachers and staff and students will return to campus on Tuesday, March 22.

In addition, the MISD Board of Trustees also approved the calendar for the 2022-2023 school year.

The calendar creation process began in September of 2021 with district leaders requesting input from the District Advisory Committee (DAC) on ideas, needs, suggestions as well as start and end date for the 2022-2023 school year. Principals were asked in their leadership meetings to share what is preferred for both elementary and secondary campuses. In October 2021, a survey was sent to parents, students and staff asking them specific questions about what is most important to them and the data from those surveys was posted on the MISD website and distributed to DAC members for review, with four calendar options being created for review. After receiving feedback on the four options, district leaders added two additional calendar options to address additional requests from parents and staff.

At the December DAC meeting, a vote was made to narrow the six selections down to two, and a call for comments was made to all MISD parents and staff in regards to those final two selections.  The request resulted in over 1600 comments, the overwhelming majority of which were positive with members of our MISD family sharing that they were thankful for the creative changes made. Based on the few comments that were made asking MISD to reconsider some dates, district leaders brought a third option to the DAC meeting in January. Members were able to read all 1600 comments, evaluate the changes provided in the third option and then voted to bring this final copy to the February Board Meeting.
