As you travel around the Montgomery area, it is easy to see the development that is taking place, the homes that are being built and the businesses coming to our community. With this growth, there is no surprise that student enrollment in Montgomery ISD is also on the rise.

After receiving the results of a district demographic study, comprehensive assessment of district facilities and approving a brand new new district strategic plan during the 2020-21 school year, the Montgomery ISD Board of Trustees recognized the need to explore the possibility of a bond and authorized the formation of a Community Bond Task Force Committee this past fall. This committee consisted of over 50 individuals, including parents and staff from each of our ten campuses, community members, and business owners. The committee held six meetings during the fall semester to evaluate existing district facilities, district growth patterns and projections conducted by a third party demographer, our MISD Pathway to Premier Strategic Plan and more. During each meeting, district staff was available to present information, answer questions and facilitate meaningful conversations.

After two of the six meetings, it was unanimously agreed upon by the committee that based on the information they had studied, our district will need additional capacity and educational facilities to serve current students enrolled in our district, as well as the thousands more projected to enroll over the next several years. The Community Bond Task Force spent their next four meetings developing a bond proposal to present to the Montgomery ISD Board of Trustees at their regularly scheduled board meeting on January 18.

Once the bond proposal is presented to the board, trustees will then vote at their February meeting on whether to call for a bond referendum, which would be on the May 2022 election ballot.

In our continued effort to be transparent and provide our families, staff and community with opportunities to get answers to their questions and provide input, the district has scheduled two Bond Town Hall meetings on Wednesday, January 26 at Montgomery High School and Wednesday, February 2 at Lake Creek High School. Both will be held in the campus auditoriums from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

These meetings will provide you with information that was utilized by the committee to assist in their decision and development of a bond proposal. The proposal will be shared and attendees will be given the opportunity to learn and ask questions.

If you would like to familiarize yourself with the information studied by the committee, please visit the Paving Our Path: Bond 2022 page on our district website to access all Community Bond Task Force meeting presentations and minutes. We will utilize this page to continue to share information with you, our community and all MISD stakeholders.

We hope you can attend to learn the facts and stay informed. It is our goal to ensure that all Montgomery ISD residents can vote with confidence.
