Dr. Ruffin

Dr. Mark Ruffin was named Superintendent of Montgomery ISD schools in December 2023.

Coming to Montgomery ISD after serving as superintendent for six years in Normangee ISD, Dr. Ruffin provides experience and valuable perspective from his roles as an educational leader in both small, rural communities, as well as larger school districts. He began his teaching career as a Math and Special Education teacher in Centerville ISD in 2009 before moving to Humble ISD as a teacher, coach and then Assistant Principal. In 2018, Ruffin moved to Normangee ISD to serve as High School Principal before being named superintendent.

Dr. Ruffin believes that alone, one cannot achieve success. His commitment as superintendent is to using a collaborative approach to leadership, believing that every team member has a purpose and a role, one no greater or less than the next. He is passionate about students, meeting each child on their journey and helping to guide them to their full potential with the power of a high-quality education.

A division-one college baseball player at University of Texas San Antonio, Dr. Ruffin graduated from UTSA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He earned his Masters in Educational Administration from University of Texas at Tyler and his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from West Texas A&M University. Ruffin is a sitting member of the Texas Association of School Administrator’s Commissioner’s Cabinet and a superintendent mentor for the Region 6 Education Service Center.

Mark and his wife Bay have three sons, Rhett, Rollie and Riggs. He says his family represents the very best part of him and he could not lead as superintendent without their continued sacrifices, support and encouragement. Mark’s faith and his family are the rock on which he stands and he is committed to leading with integrity, a strong work ethic and honest enthusiasm for public education in Montgomery, TX.
