MES 2017 Sumdog National Champions

Capture studentsThe National Sumdog Contest was announced to the students on Friday, January 13, 2017. Over the long weekend, they were encouraged to play and compete. When class resumed Monday, Montgomery Elementary School was in sixth place and the students were determined they were going to win the National Championship. Students continued to play during their technology small group math rounds each day and at home in the evenings.

“They were encouraged to play at night and I even saw most of them playing in the bus rider line on their devices. They were very determined to win and it was fun see their efforts even outside the classroom,” said Ginny Lewis, first grade teacher.

When school was dismissed on Thursday, January 19, MES held second place in the nation and the students were fired up to make a push for the top spot. At the close of the contest on Friday, January 20, MES students had earned FIRST PLACE beating out over 2600 other classes!
