The Dual Language Program at LES Brings Dia de los Meurtos to Life

Dias de los Meurtos

The Dual Language Program at Lincoln Elementary recently completed social studies projects related to Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. It is a holiday celebrated by people of Mexican ancestry and developed from ancient traditions from its pre-Hispanic cultures. The rituals observed in this celebration go back two to three thousand years. Spanish explorers in the 16th century observed native Aztecs honor and celebrated the life of the dead. Fast forward to the late twentieth century, Dia de los Muertos is now a multi-day holiday that honors the life of those who have passed away. November 1st honors the unborn and young children, and November 2nd honors adults.
