The 2011 Veteran’s Day Celebration at Montgomery Intermediate School was a huge success once again! We had over 40 Veterans from Montgomery and surrounding areas come join us as 540 fifth-graders showed their appreciation for these special men and women. The day began with a breakfast that was followed by our traditional "parade through the halls" with patriotic music and 540 waving flags. Our special guests were then serenaded by our fabulous Vocal Elite Choir members and everyone helped MIS Principal, Jada Mullins, show some appreciation for MIS's very own Phyliss Teasdale. Mrs. Teasdale is the teacher who started the MISD Veterans Day Celebration 15 years ago, hoping to instill in students across the district an American pride and heartfelt appreciation for their freedoms. She was presented with a plaque and bouquet of flowers for her dedication to this program, which has touched the lives of many Veterans and their families for the past 15 years. MIS is so proud of Mrs. Teasdale, and we were excited to recognize her during this special ceremony.
A huge "Thank You!" goes out to all of our staff members, parents, and students who helped make this a special day, especially our Student Council members, Vocal Elite Choir members, and our Boy Scouts. We look forward to another great celebration in 2012 and hope our Veterans left MIS feeling appreciated and honored!
