- Space Science is a sixth grade elective class that is
designed for the student who has a great interest in understanding
our universe, space exploration, and how humans can live and work
in the space environment.
- Students will become actively involved in hands-on scientific
investigations in this class throughout the semester .
- This is not like other elective courses offered at Montgomery

Science binder, complete daily activities which will be graded,
and take tests at the end of each unit.
There are 3
main units of study;
Astronomy
- students will study:
the theories of how the universe and the objects in the
universe were created, astronomy our solar system and each planets characteristics.

Flight
and Rocketry
-
students will study:
Newton’s Laws of Motion, how objects “fly”, and how to build and launch a rocket

Living and
Working in Space
- students will study:
what the space environment is like and its effects on the
human body, how satellites/probes are used, the life of an astronaut on board the space shuttle with the
culminating activity being an 8 hour simulated mission on board
the MMS Quest space shuttle .
