NOTES FROM THE COUNSELOR, MRS. MOCHEL

SUMMER SCHOOL INFORMATION

Unfortunately, some students do not master the required curriculum for a course during the regular school year.  For these students, the MISD Summer School program is designed to provide remedial and promotional opportunities for students who were unable to meet promotion criteria during the regular school year.  Classes will run June 18-July 15, 2008 at the junior high school.  Registration will be held June 11th and 12th from 4:00-7:00 pm at Montgomery Junior High School.

Letters informing the parents of students who have failed language arts or math for the year or who do not have an overall average of 70 for the school year will be mailed home beginning June 2nd.  Enclosed in the mailing will also be an information sheet and a registration form for Summer School.  Transportation will be provided using designated areas as drop-off and pick-up points.

Policies governing the promotion/retention of students follow the laws of the state of Texas:

For students in grade 1-6 to be promoted from one grade to the next, the student must attain an average of 70 or above for the school year in language arts and in mathematics.  In addition, students must attain an overall average of 70 or above for the school year derived by averaging final numerical grades for language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

Please call for more information or if you have questions.

 UIL NEWS

Montgomery Middle School once again brought home the gold finishing in first place at the UIL competition.  Congratulations to our students and their sponsor teachers.  Great job!

 HAVEN’T ORDERED YOUR YEARBOOK YET??

The yearbook order form can be found on the Middle School website OR your child can pick up an order form in the Cafeteria form rack.  ORDER NOW!

FINAL DAYS OF 6th GRADE

As the school year comes to a close, it’s time to make sure that your child’s account in the cafeteria is paid in full.  It is also the time to send any library books that may have had an extended stay at your home back to the Middle School library.  Address change?  Update your records by contacting our registrar, Mrs. Spaugh, at 597-3174 to ensure you receive the end of year report card in the mail.

IS YOUR CHILD GOING FROM REGULAR TO

ACCELERATED MATH IN 7TH GRADE?

Look for the enclosed math camp flyer in your child’s VIP Envelope.  This camp provides an opportunity for your child to learn the objectives that would otherwise be missed as they transition into the accelerated math program. And if the flyer didn’t make it home, extra copies are available in the cafeteria for your child to pickup.

 AWARDS ASSEMBLY INFORMATION

The second semester awards assembly will be held on Thursday, June 5th in the cafeteria.  We will have two sessions:  one at 8:45 and the other at 9:45.  Find out the name of your child’s homeroom teacher and you will know which session to attend based on the following

8:45 Awards

Space Science Students

Cahoon            Coker

Cooper             Fey

Note:  Space Science Students should plan on attending the 8:45 awards ceremony when the space science awards are distributed.  Students will receive their other awards through their homeroom teacher which may mean that they will attend two sessions.  For instance, if your child’s homeroom teacher is Mrs. Washburn & they are a space science student, they will attend the first session to receive space science awards and then will return at 9:45 to receive any additional awards.
